Diamond Certification
Our expert gemologists use state-of-the-art equipment to precisely weigh and measure each diamond, thoroughly assessing its cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. We guarantee that every stone in our collection has been independently verified, ensuring both its authenticity and quality.
Each diamond comes with a certificate (or gemological report) issued by internationally recognized laboratories. At Brown and Blonde, we work only with the most prestigious certification bodies in the world, such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the International Gemological Institute (IGI) and Hoge Raad voor Diamant (HRD).
What determines the quality of a diamond?
Quality is described through the 4 Cs — cut, color, clarity, and carat —a kind of palette with which the portrait of a diamond is painted. But beyond technique, true beauty is in the eye of the beholder: many of our clients choose to prioritize one of these qualities over the others, thus creating a jewel that is not only valuable but deeply personal.
THE 4 C'S OF DIAMONDS
Cut: The cut is what defines a diamond’s sparkle and brilliance. It’s not about the shape (round, oval, etc.), but how it has been cut and faceted. A well-cut diamond allows light to enter, reflect, and scatter harmoniously, creating that signature glow. The cut is one of the most important factors in determining a diamond’s beauty. For us, every diamond is a natural masterpiece, with a unique history and character. Expert cutters are like artists: they reveal the hidden beauty in each stone, highlighting its light and unique personality.
Color: In diamonds, color is actually measured by the absence of color. The scale ranges from colorless (the most valuable due to its rarity) to light shades of yellow or brown. The more transparent a diamond is, the higher its value, as it allows light to pass through and shine more intensely.
Clarity: Clarity refers to the absence of internal imperfections (called inclusions) and external flaws (called blemishes). The most valuable diamonds have fewer inclusions, as these don’t interfere with the passage of light. A diamond with high clarity is not only rarer but also offers a cleaner, more luminous appearance.
Carat: Carat refers to the weight of a diamond, with one caratequal to 200 milligrams. While it’s often associated with size, a larger carat doesn’t always mean a better diamond: cut, color, and clarity also affect its beauty and value. Still, carat weight is one of the key factors in determining a diamond’s price.
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is the world's leading institution for evaluating diamonds. Recognized for its rigor and impartiality, it has created the most comprehensive scale for analyzing the cut, color, clarity, and carat of each stone. This scale has become the international standard used by jewelers and appraisers to accurately assess a diamond's quality.
